Bathing Your Pet Bird

Some are not labeled for use on cockatiels and cockatoos, which are dusty birds. Before using any of these products on your birds, always read the label closely, and consult your avian veterinarian to ensure that the product is safe.

A pelleted diet - are pellets enough?

07.07.11

The Crystal Parrot - Most vets will tell you that the most common avian health problem is poor nutrition. When a bird lacks the proper diet, this can affect many other aspects of a bird’s physical and psychological well being. Lower resistance to disease, obesity, poor feather condition, liver and/or kidney disease and even death can all be results from an inadequate diet. Despite years of research and education, the myth of a “seed and water” diet still lingers. While seed is essential in some types of bird’s diets (such as canaries, finches, budgies and cockatiels) it should never be the sole source of nutrition for any bird. Seed does not contain the necessary vitamins and minerals to maintain a healthy diet. Although birds and humans vary in their dietary requirements, we would never consider eating the same thing everyday nor should we expect our birds to. Not only is this not healthy, it’s downright boring!

by netman

@Cyclone1824

Dont be a retard, its not like shes cutting off the wing, shes just clipping the feathers shorter, they feel no pain, if she didnt do this it could fly into a window and hurt itself. It can easily escape too. Anyways, most birds are a little less aggresive when their wings are clipped so it makes for a better pet. Considering it’s a pet, it won’t be allowed to go very far, so it’s more like making someone walk instead of run

It is actually a matter of personal choice. Clipped birds are less likely to escape, and naturally are more dependent on you, BUT unclipped birds are stronger and more confident.My experience from my birds has taught me that clipped birds are more likely to get harmed when they try to fly through a window, or on a wall, because they cannot control their flight. Unclipped birds that have mastered flight dodge walls and windows more easily than clipped ones.
